A THOUGHT FROM TODAY’S READING…
I think we’ve all felt like Job did in Job 7 at one time or another. You know, when life feels unbearable. We feel like we are being driven to our limits. And to top it off, when we lay down to rest, our mind is going a million miles an hour - still frustrated with what today gave us and not looking forward to what tomorrow might bring.

It’s times like these we find ourselves venting to God - letting God know exactly how we’re feeling. Did you know that is actually part of our relationship with God? Sure, God already knows how we feel - but He wants to hear from us. Admitting there is a problem is often the start to finding the solution - but other times it doesn’t seem we find one at all. Things still don’t seem to turn out the way we want, and we’re reminded of just how little we understand. God’s ways are not our ways, His thoughts are not our thoughts. We don’t see things the way God does. It’s here that we’re left, like Job, not with solutions or comfort, but only with reality. I sometimes struggle with the “why” in my relationship with God. Especially in these moments, it amazes me that God still pursues people and wants us to be in relationship with us. Why would God want to be in relationship with me when I don’t even want to be in a relationship with me!?

And yet, thank God He does still seek us even in the depths of our anxieties and struggles. For providing grace and protection even in the midst of lashing out at God in frustration for what is going on in our life. Maybe our sin here is pride - thinking we see it all, know it all, or can fix it all. When we can’t, do we keep trying? Or will we turn to God in it, to find that God loves you just the way you are, not the way you’re supposed to be. He just loves us too much to let us stay there. GLYASDI - Scott Rose

A THOUGHT FROM TODAY’S READING…
I honestly had to read today's passage in Romans several times to begin to understand what Paul is saying to the Gentiles. The phrase that kept coming to mind is, "None are Done.” It was a phrase coined by the church planting team I was a part of that kept us filled with vision and hope for what God could do in even the darkest circumstances or in peoples' lives who seemed so far from God. Paul carries this same passionate hope for his people, the Israelites, as he writes to the Gentiles about their new found faith in Jesus Christ. He had experienced this same hardening of heart that his fellow people were in - not being able to truly 'see' who Jesus was and what His death, burial, and resurrection meant for them. Paul is excited to see the Gospel go to the Gentiles - but there's this longing, desire and fire in him that hopes, knows, and believes that one day the people of Israel will turn back to God and He will have mercy on them. Maybe there is someone in your life close to you that is coming to mind. Maybe a parent, sibling, close friend, son or daughter who isn't following Jesus right now. You are sharing Him with others but deep in your heart, you desire for that person to know Jesus and find the great mercy He extends to each of us so much. God sees you. He knows that you still carry hope and a desire for them and it drives you and motivates you. Or maybe you need hope renewed in you for someone close to you to come back to fullness of who God is and life in Him, rooted in Him. I pray today for you - that 'the God of all hope would fill you with all joy and peace in believing so that by the power of the Holy Spirit, you would abound in hope.' - Jessica Glenn

A THOUGHT FROM TODAY’S READING…
You’d be hard pressed to find a more depressing trifecta of scripture passages than today’s readings. We have Job deeply, and very dramatically, cursing the day he was born. The Psalm writer is feeling abandoned and forgotten by God, in a place where “My tears have been my food day and night.” In the NT reading, Paul is dealing with the reality that some are cut off from God because of their disobedience.Yikes! Isn’t a life lived with God supposed to be all sunshine and rainbows? We all know the answer is a resounding “no”. It is unshakably true that in this life, trouble comes. It can even feel so bad that we begin to question God’s character…or very existence.
Why would God allow this?
The answer is found at the end of our NT reading today: “For God has consigned all to disobedience, that he may have mercy on all.” This means that God allows us to make mistakes, to feel the weight of our choices and the darkness in this world. Also, he allows this so that we can also feel the weight of his mercy and his love. Like the good parent he is, God allows us to experience some bad so that we can recognize and be drawn to good.
Hopefully you never experience Job level trials in your life, but you will experience pain and sadness. As Pastor Dave mentioned yesterday, worshiping God through those times can be very powerful. It can also be comforting to remember the times that you felt his presence/power/deliverance in the past and cling to the hope we have in Christ Jesus. Not a flimsy, “maybe this will happen” kind of hope, but a rock solid hope built on the infallible promises of God. -

A THOUGHT FROM TODAY’S READING…
Psalm 41 is about as raw and real as it gets — a cry from someone who’s been low. These are the places where things get real - painfully real. The places where faith isn’t just theory and Sunday school answers just won’t do. The writer talks about being sick, betrayed by close friends, and surrounded by enemies who just want to see him fall. Maybe you’ve been there. Maybe you’re there right now. It’s the place Job found himself in today’s reading. One moment, life was good; the next, everything fell apart. His health, his wealth, his family — gone. Even his friends questioned him. What do you do when life blindsides you? When the diagnosis comes, the relationship falls apart, or the betrayal cuts deep? Job shows us something radical: he worshiped. Not because he felt good, but because God is still good. It can be hard to say that when life gets real - but times like these show us that God’s faithfulness is the most real thing in life. We typically think of worship as something we do in the highs of life - being thankful, celebrating God’s goodness, or singing a feel-good Jesus song. But maybe our most powerful worship comes in the low places. And, as Garth would say, knowing you have friends there.

So, how do you worship in the low places? Don’t run from God in the pain — run to Him. Cry out. Be honest. Let His Word anchor you. And reach out to someone who can walk with you through the storm. Pain may be part of the journey, but with God, healing and restoration are always part of the story. He sees you. He’s with you. Even now. -

A THOUGHT FROM TODAY’S READING…
“How many times have I tried to secure my own righteousness?”
This is the question I find myself asking while reading today’s passage in Romans. If you have children, you're probably familiar with the scenario where they try to do something they have no idea how to do. If your experience is anything like mine, it usually ends in a mess or someone getting hurt. I think the same is true when we try to secure our own righteousness—it often ends up messy, and sometimes, others get hurt as well.

But God, with His fatherly heart, meets us in those moments, full of grace, reminding us that it’s not up to us. Our job as His sons and daughters is to show up, be faithful to the things God has placed before us, and trust Him with the rest. As it says later in Romans 10, God wants our HEART.

Take a moment today before you dive into your day and ask Jesus, “Where have I been trying to secure my own righteousness? And how can I give that to You today?” Journal your response, and revisit it from time to time! - Matteo McGill

A THOUGHT FROM TODAY’S READING…
Today’s reading in Esther is such an example to me of God using us exactly where he has us. Esther becoming queen allowed God to use her to help save the Jewish people. God used Mordecai to encourage her to talk to the king about it. She was afraid to take that step and didn’t know how that would go (if anyone, even the Queen, asked to speak to the King when they weren’t summoned, he could have them put to death.) God is very present in the book of Esther, despite the fact that he isn’t mentioned. I can picture her asking God for guidance and help, and him showing her what to do step by step and giving her what she needed in order to do it. Even the way she asked the king to have a banquet with her twice before discussing it with him. She likely asked God for wisdom and he gave her each step to take at just the right time. Her patience in taking each step as God showed it to her, though she was uncertain and likely afraid, is what paved the way for the Jewish people to have freedom. When Esther became queen, she had no idea that God would use her in this way. This is just like all of us. When God puts us in the places he has us, we have no idea what he is doing and how he might involve us. If we pay attention to wisdom from the godly people he puts in our lives and take the steps that he shows us, we get to be a part of what he is doing. When we feel afraid or lost, or when we don’t know what step to take, we can cry out to him (similar to today’s Psalm). God sees us, knows us and wants us to know him more, and he is faithful to guide us when we seek him. - Gwyn Kubiak

A THOUGHT FROM TODAY’S READING…
There is a certain story arch that most every movie follows. The scene is set. Characters are introduced and we become emotionally attached to them. Trouble comes, usually at least partly due to the characters’ poor choices. Things get really bad and the characters’ world is falling apart. Then some bold act happens, salvation comes, and they are redeemed. Something about this arch really captures our attention and draws us in.
I don’t know about you, but I found myself riveted as I was reading today’s OT scripture. Assassination plots foiled. A queen with a secret identity. A terrifying cliffhanger with the Jewish people on the brink of extermination. Those are high stakes worthy of an epic story. We LOVE these stories.
Why? Because they are our story!
We often feel like David as he wrote in today’s Psalm: “my pain is constant”, “I am anxious because of my sin”, “my enemies are vigorous and powerful”. And yet we do not have to feel this way. The ending of our story has already been written due to the bold act of Jesus. In Romans today we read: “Who is the one who condemns? Christ Jesus is the one who died, but even more, has been raised; he also is at the right hand of God and intercedes for us.” We have been saved from death and redeemed by his sacrifice. We are now right with God and NOTHING can separate us from him.
Unlike the character in an epic tale who does not know the conclusion, we do, and that can actually change our “script”. We can act out of ridiculous confidence in the face of our trials since we know how the story ends. And the coolest part, we can be part of other people’s redemption story by introducing them to Jesus. We can be agents/ambassadors for the greatest hero in history!  - Mike Nank

A THOUGHT FROM TODAY’S READING…
Waiting is hard. When life feels heavy and answers seem distant, it’s easy to wonder if God sees you, is working, or has a plan in all this. Esther probably felt that way — taken from her home, thrown into an uncertain future, and waiting for whatever came next. Yet even when she couldn’t see it, God was working behind the scenes, positioning her for a purpose. Romans 8 reminds us that it’s not just us, but that all creation is waiting with eager hope for God’s promises to be fulfilled. That means that everyone and everything, everywhere, at every time has felt that - but rest assured: our hope is that God is working all things together for good. In everything, everywhere, every time. We may not always understand the “why” behind our circumstances, but we can trust that God is always at work, shaping us and positioning us for His purposes.

So what do you do when you don’t control? You surrender. Waiting isn’t wasted when it’s surrendered to God. When you’re stuck in the "in-between,” you trust. You lean into God’s Word. You pray honest prayers, even the messy ones. And you hold onto hope, knowing God is faithful. Today, take a step — write down what you’re waiting for, then surrender it to God in prayer. He’s not distant. He’s right there with you, working all things for good. Even in the waiting, He’s moving. - Dave Kubiak

A THOUGHT FROM TODAY’S READING…
Ever feel like you’re in a constant tug-of-war between doing what’s right and falling back into old habits? You’re not the only one. In fact, Paul himself talks about the struggle we ALL face in Romans 7 — wanting to do good but wrestling with sin. Nehemiah saw this firsthand as the people of Israel kept slipping back into old patterns, even after rebuilding the walls of Jerusalem. In Nehemiah 13, he had to step in and remind them to honor God’s boundaries (as Rachel reminded us yesterday), like keeping the Sabbath holy. It wasn’t about rules for the sake of rules but about protecting their relationship with God and the good things He was doing among them.

It’s natural to try harder to do more and better - especially when we’re not hitting the mark. But in God’s kingdom, things often feel upside down. Do you intentionally set aside time to rest and refocus on God? In our fast-paced lives, creating rhythms of rest — whether it’s unplugging from work, spending quiet time in prayer, or gathering with others for worship — helps protect our hearts from drifting and keeps our focus on God.

If you’re looking for something a little more active, try Psalm 37:34: "Wait for the Lord and keep his way." Practically, this means pausing before reacting or making decisions, especially when you feel tempted or overwhelmed. Take a moment to pray, seek wisdom from scripture, or talk to a trusted friend who points you back to Jesus. These habits build a foundation of relying on the Spirit’s guidance, as Paul talks about in Romans 8:5-6, choosing to set our minds on what the Spirit desires rather than being driven by our impulses.

If you’re struggling with sin today, remember - you’re not in this alone. God gives us His Spirit to guide and strengthen us, and He places people in our lives to walk alongside us. Instead of trying harder, train! Lean into God’s grace, set healthy boundaries, and trust God’s Spirit to lead you. - Dave Kubiak

A THOUGHT FROM TODAY’S READING…
What do boundaries do for us? God gave us boundaries in His commandments. If it weren’t for them we wouldn’t have a grasp on what is good vs evil. Romans 7:7-20 talks about this. The Law gives us boundaries that set apart good from evil, and it’s up to us to turn to or from those things. To walk in obedience to Him. Continuing through the book of Nehemiah in chapter 12:44-47, it talks about leaders being appointed to guard the places and things set apart for God. They rededicated themselves, this new place they rebuilt, and the tithe in worship to God, overcoming previous sin and shame. It makes sense that they would take measures to protect it by adding guards, walls, and gates. Many times throughout this book there were people who came against them rebuilding the foundation, walls and gates in worship to their God.

This spoke to me and made me think of times I’ve had to make a choice to turn to or away from sin. Or times I’ve taken measures to protect His place and His good plans for me. I need boundaries that are built to protect good things and walk through hard things. I need gates that allow good leadership in my life to come in and help me work through hard things and celebrate what God is doing. There will be those that have a problem with your boundaries and might even push past them. Take courage and turn to God’s Word today. There’ are also people God brings you that speak life into you. Let’s worship and give thanks for the ways God is moving, and consider what boundaries we have or need that will protect the good things He is doing. “The law of his God is in his heart; his steps do not slip.” Psalm‬ ‭37‬:‭31‬ ‭ - Rachel Hood

A THOUGHT FROM TODAY’S READING…
These passages were difficult to blend together at first, but after prayer and memories of past teachings coming to mind, I began to see a tapestry of understanding. The idea of being a slave to righteousness is challenging for me to think about, let alone explain. I remember in ancient times, there were, unfortunately, many instances of slavery in the form we are most familiar with and saddened or even enraged about now. But there was also a common form of slavery related to unpaid debt. A person unable to pay off a debt could become the lender’s slave to avoid jail time and then work off the debt owed. This didn’t guarantee an amiable owner, but it did prevent imprisonment while family members worked to pay off the debt. You see, our actions and choices lead us to become slaves of sin or righteousness. These choices, made one at a time in one direction or the other, lead to us being empowered by the cruel master of sin and darkness or bonded to the love and freedom that comes with obedience to the one true God and Messiah, Jesus Christ. This thought sat with me for a while this morning as I moved around the house doing morning chores and driving about. I rarely remember thinking about the consequences of my sin at the moment. I’m too selfishly trying to decide to obey or give into sin, not remembering the effects of my choices on those I live life with or recalling that one step after the other in the wrong direction can lead to sinful slavery. I have been freed from much as I have followed Jesus, and I want to remember that slavery doesn’t have an age limit. It can occur to anyone with repeated steps in the wrong direction, no matter how “innocent” the choice seems. So, how do we keep ourselves pure and holy in this life fraught with sinful choices? That brought me back to our reading in Nehemiah. That passage of the long list of names was a celebration of the completion of the wall of Israel, destroyed by an enemy. This fantastic feat took just over 50 days of side-by-side workmanship and determination. Take a moment to read how long and wide the wall was. Completing this task was hard labor spurred on by Nehemiah and the other workers alongside each other. They were shoulder-to-shoulder getting this done. We are Christians side-by-side, arm-in-arm, holding each other up physically and sometimes in prayer and encouragement, ensuring we stay on the path of obedience and fellowship. One day when we get to heaven, we will read the book created by God while we were formed in our mother’s womb and read the accounting of our days just like we read in Nehemiah as those priests were listed. God is a god of detail and order. He is a proud Papa (Daddy), and He will list those things we accomplished in our lives of servitude to righteousness. Now, don’t think about the many sins that have also been committed. When we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us of our sins and cast them into the sea of forgetfulness, removing them from us as far as the East is from the West.

The verse to be encouraged by is the one in Psalm 37:23-25. Oh, how our Lord and Savior loves each of us! He upholds His hand to catch us should we fall and never forsake the righteous. - Renee Richter

A THOUGHT FROM TODAY’S READING…
If you were given $1,000 no strings attached, what would you do with it? If you were given a week off work or away from your regular daily responsibilities, what would you do? Maybe you just thought about giving part of the money or time to helping others. Maybe you thought about asking God what he would have you do with the surplus. Great!

Now, what about the money and time you already have? Was this not also given to you by God? So why is it harder to give God a say with your “regular resources”, or share those with others?

In today’s OT reading, we find Nehemiah and the other Israelites in Jerusalem. The wall is complete, but they are far from safe and reestablished in their home. It would have been easy for them to say that they needed to focus ALL their resources (supplies and people) on the rebuilding of their community: homes, crops, infrastructure, etc. So, what do they do? They take a tenth of their people and commit their first fruits to establishing God’s house and their system of remaining right with God. As Nehemiah says (10:39): “We will not neglect the house of our God.”

Why would they do that? Wouldn’t God want them to use the resources he gave them to take care of themselves and only give back to him once they were in a better position? That is what the wisdom of this world and scarcity mindset would say. But God’s economy is different. His is built on infinite abundance. Psalm 37:16-17 says “Better the little that the righteous have then the wealth of many wicked; for the power of the wicked will be broken, but the Lord upholds the righteous.” This means that when God is involved, a little bit will go a far longer way.

But let’s be honest…even if we acknowledge all this as truth, it is STILL hard to offer our time and treasure in service to God. We tend to embrace the scarcity mindset. My strong suggestion for us is to give God a try. Take a step. He challenges us to “test him” and see. Watch how his abundance can backfill what we offer and fill us with renewed energy/purpose/strength.

We read in Romans today that we have been brought from death to life through Jesus’ sacrifice. We are called to offer our bodies (resources) to the Lord as instruments of righteousness. Let’s do it!

A THOUGHT FROM TODAY’S READING…
I don’t know about you, but patience is not always my strong suit. A while back, when Gwyn and I attended our first World Mandate Conference in Texas, we received prayer from someone who shared that, while we were running the same race, I was often running ahead of Gwyn. That’s been true throughout our marriage and, if I’m honest, can even be true of my relationship with God. I often run ahead. Waiting on God’s timing, trusting His plan—it’s easy to say but hard to live out. Nehemiah 9 reminds us how God has been faithful throughout history, even when His people have fallen short. The Israelites took time to confess their sins (yeah, even the right thing at the wrong time can be that) and remember how God had delivered them again and again. For me, running ahead can be a trust issue. It can come from a place of believing, “If I don’t, it won’t.” Psalm 37 reminds me again to "be still before the Lord and wait patiently for Him.”

It’s funny - sometimes my drive to be free, go fast and get far can actually enslave me, slow things down, and hold me back. When we surrender our impatience and trust in God’s faithfulness, we experience the freedom Paul talks about in Romans 6—we are no longer slaves to sin, but alive in Christ! Just like Nehemiah and the Israelites committed themselves again to walk with God, we are invited to do the same. Today, let’s choose to trust Him, wait on His perfect timing, and walk (usually not run) with Him into new life. - Dave Kubiak

Instead of having a “thought” provided, today the thought is yours! We’d love to encourage you to revisit today’s scripture and engage deeply with the questions above. Take time to reflect and let God’s Word speak to you personally.

Identify a Focus verse, phrase, or word. This should be one that presents a truth with special relevance or significance to you. Write it out word for word. Then, write your Feelings or insight: your own explanation of how you see the truth of your Focus relating or speaking to your life. Finally, identify an Invitation from God. If you believe the truth of your insight, what specific action will you take?

Let God guide you through this process, and see how His Word transforms your perspective!

A THOUGHT FROM TODAY’S READING…
Have you ever felt surrounded, broken, intimidated? Nehemiah went to Jeruslum when the city and its people were at an all time low. Broken, overwhelmed, and vulnerable. Homes were in ruins, the wall around the city was destroyed. Because of his faith in God, Nehemiah showed great character and leadership. He refused to be intimidated in his mission to lead Jerusalem into restoration.

The right people in our lives can speak life and restoration into our faith. I think of light - when we have one light in the darkness we may struggle to see, but when another with their light joins you, your ability to see increases. God is our light. When we walk with God, we can see our path more clearly and with confidence. As we strengthen our relationship with God, we take on his light and represent him to others. When we stand together in unity and harmony for God, big things can happen. People and relationships are important not only in our lives, but to the kingdom. Nehemiah knew the importance of each person in the city, and he strategically placed them into the positions that would help restore and protect the city as they rebuilt homes and the wall. There were laborers, gatekeepers, watchmen, priests, and singers. Everyone in the community contributed generously to support the work of rebuilding. There is a Hebrew word, "nadav," meaning “to volunteer or offer willingly,” which highlights the spirit of generosity and communal support. God intended us to live in community - he designed us for relationships. He made us to be together in faith and serve him in rebuilding faith amongst the world. We are meant to play important roles for his kingdom, together.

Even when Nehemiah received threats and attempts of intimidation from surrounding nations, he showed great perseverance. The wall was completed in 52 days, which was a huge feat in that time. The leaders of the opposing nations were intimidated by this, knowing God was in this - there was no way man could accomplish this task in such little time alone. God can move and do so much through us when we partner with him and allow him to strategically place us in the positions to volunteer. Think about our teams at church - the security team keeps us safe watching over the building walls, the parking lot crew helps to protect the families and people as they arrive, the welcome team gives guidance and greetings, the cafe fuels us for the day and gives us time to connect, the clean team takes care of God's house, "The Temple.” Our decor team decorates and helps create an environment of community, the worship team leads us in the praise and lifts our hearts, the pastors teach us how to live in community. The elders watch over and protect. I love our community and I am so thankful for all the ways God shows us how to live. The Bible is alive, the living Word! God is faithful, and with Him we can accomplish more than any man alone. May you feel God's presence and encouragement today. - Marci Burk
