THINK. A Thought from Pastor Dave…
The concept of intentional rest is woven throughout Scripture. In Christ, we are freed to enjoy the physical rest that comes from ceasing our labors and our striving, trusting His ultimate provision. In Christ, we experience spiritual rest, unburdened from attempting to provide security and wholeness for ourselves. In Christ, we can rest securely in eternity because of the hope we have that we will forever be in God’s presence now and after death. As you prepare to explore what Scripture says about rest, take time to reflect on your current understanding and experience of rest… In what ways might you believe rest is unnecessary? Vital? When was the last time you truly felt at rest? Do you feel unable to rest, or is rest an integral part of your life’s rhythms? Is rest more “reactive” for you, or “proactive?” What does your use of time, money, energy, conversations, and even thoughts demonstrate about your value for rest? In what ways are you (or those around you) longing for rest? May you find true rest in God over these next few weeks. In the words of the famous theologian Augustine, “You (God) have made us for yourself, and our heart is restless until it rests in you.”
