Good Morning!
Let’s focus our day by spending some time with Jesus before it begins.
THANK. Write down 3-5 things you’re thankful for in the last 24 hours.
WORSHIP. Pick a song from one of our Spotify Playlists and let it play in the background.
READ. Today’s scripture reading is from Ezekiel 36:26 & Ezekiel 13-14 (Go Deeper: Isaiah 55:8-11)
THINK. A Thought from Pastor Dave…
There’s a lot of “fake news” and “misinformation” out there these days. And which news is fake seems to change depending on who you ask. Misinformation has been a problem since Ezekiel’s time and, just as it does now, led to a lot of pain, hardship, and disaster. That’s why it’s so important for us to get to source. Most people want to hear from God - but when it comes down to it, do we really want to hear from God? And how can we discern which voices are speaking for God and which are the “fake news” anyway? God addresses this in Ezekiel 13-14, when He tells Ezekiel to speak out against the people who claimed to speak for God. They were speaking “out of their own imagination” and “following their own spirit” - not the Holy Spirit. How can we tell the difference? Well, first of all God says there are some people who speak for God (and this can sound a lot of ways - even something as simple as “God would want you to be happy”) who say things God hasn’t said (13:7). There are people who may put religious rules on others that God hasn’t and others who may offer more freedom than God has. The best way to know what God is saying is to go back to what God has already said in scripture. (And a great way to know what scripture says is reading the Daily Focus!) Others whitewash over cracks in the foundation by just focusing on the good, the happy, and the positive. God only ever makes them feel good about themselves and confirms the choices they’re making. They make be looking for a church that will agree with everything they already think… and some churches might be tempted to to keep people around. Others claim to speak for God so that they can get ahead financially - “prophets for profit” as I like to call them. Think many TV evangelists. And still others never lead people to a place of repentance (or change) for anything, resulting in people who say they love God but don’t really obey His commands. Hearing from God should be founded on Scripture, will often challenge you to take a step of faith, may cost you something (not just be about selfish gain), lead to repentance, and result in faithfulness. What is God saying to you today?
LIVE. One practical way to understand and apply the Bible is the SOS method. Ask…
S: What does this passage say about God, and what does it say about me?
O: What am I being invited to obey?
S: What can I share with those around me?
PRAY. Pray for yourself, a family member, a friend, someone who doesn’t know Jesus, and the nations.
