Good Morning!
Let’s focus our day by spending some time with Jesus before it begins.
Pick a song from one of our Spotify Playlists and let it play in the background.
ENTER. Write down or say out loud 3-5 things you’re thankful for from the last 24 hours.
FOCUS. Slowly breathe in… and out. Pray, Jesus, I surrender to you today and trust in you.
READ.
Our Scripture Focus is 2 Chronicles 7:13-14. Try memorizing it during this study!
Today’s reading is from 2 Chronicles 21-22 & Deuteronomy 10:12-14
THINK. A Thought from Renee Richter…
2 Chronicles 21:7 says, “Yet the LORD was not willing to destroy the house of David, because of the covenant that He had made with David, and since He had promised to give a lamp to him and to his sons forever.” Before and after this verse, we read of the kings that did evil in the sight of the LORD. They brought destruction to their families, enemies, and citizens. The question might have been, “Where is God, and why is He allowing this evil to happen?” Have you been there, and can you relate to these questions? Do you see the deeds of those who have rejected God? Are you being impacted personally by their acts of misconduct? Have you found yourself asking, “Where are you, God?” But what else did we read? God saw what was happening! In one passage, we read of Elijah telling the king, God has seen your evil, and here is your judgment. Another king unknowingly walked into the judgment of the Lord and was executed. It took years for this judgment to come to these kings, but God wasn’t blind to it. We will not always understand the timing of the Lord, but we can rest assured He does see and is acting, even if we can’t. Wait, we were talking about our covenant-keeping God. These kings were allowed to reign because God promised David that he and his sons would always be kings over Israel (Judah). God knew this eternal reign would end with His Son, Jesus Christ. He wasn’t blind to the evil, He saw it and took care of it AND He kept His promise, and David’s sons reigned. Why do we need to remember this? Because Jesus offers an eternal covenant with each of us, who chooses to believe He died on the cross for our sins, rose again on the third day, and ascended to Heaven to be seated as King of kings. He is the Son of God. When we, in faith, believe this truth, an eternal covenant is made between God and each of us. We are His children. We are commanded to love the Lord our God with all our hearts and souls,  keeping His commandments. This is required by Him, but when we fail and fall into disobedience, remember He is a covenant-keeping God. Our sins and lapses in loving Him with all our hearts and souls, doesn’t mean He will forget about us or walk away with us. Our loving God will bring it to our attention and ask for confession but He is a covenant-keeping God who will never leave us or abandon us.
