Good Morning!
Let’s focus our day by spending some time with Jesus before it begins.
THANK. Write down 3-5 things you’re thankful for in the last 24 hours.
WORSHIP. Pick a song from one of our Spotify Playlists and let it play in the background.
READ. Today’s scripture reading is from Matthew 26:14-16 & Mark 14:3-11 (Go Deeper: Luke 22:3-6)
THINK. A Thought from Pastor Dave…
Isn’t it interesting that social distancing was/is so hard for us? COVID-19 exposed the human reality that we are meant for close and vulnerable relationships with others, and yet we spend most our days sidestepping people, sucked into our smartphones and social media streams, closed off to those around us through the forcefield of noise canceling headphones. Then we come to today’s reading, and a woman captivated by Christ to the degree that she would take the most expensive possession she potentially has in her life and break it open to show the invaluable worth of the rabbi who had swept her up in grace-filled love. This could have been used for so many other things. As Judas would point out, “the money could have been used for charity.” This is what the irresistible and prodigal love of Jesus does to us. It launches us into irrational and illogical responses of love and worship. Judas would be remembered for how much he made, while this woman would be remembered for how much she gave. What we’re willing to “pour ourselves out” for (worship) reveals who (or what) we love most. And when it’s anything other than Jesus, it will put distance in between us. Judas walks away from Jesus and His church after this encounter. We distance ourselves, but Jesus shows us a different way. He draws so close to some of the worst in society that he walks away smelling like one of them. This season of Lent allows us to reflect on the thousands of times we have chosen distance when Jesus would instead draw near.
LIVE. One practical way to understand and apply the Bible is the SOS method. Ask…
S: What does this passage say about God, and what does it say about me?
O: What am I being invited to obey?
S: What can I share with those around me?
PRAY. Pray for yourself, a family member, a friend, someone who doesn’t know Jesus, and the nations.
