THINK. A Thought from Pastor Dave
Any time I’ve left home for any amount of time, one of the most difficult things is being away from my kids. Sure, we can talk and even see each other on a screen thanks to modern technology, but it’s not the same as being with them. Our connection isn’t the same. We focus only on the big things and miss some of the little things in our conversation. We don’t enjoy the same closeness. There’s more fear when I’m not present with them. I’m not able to lead and guide them as well as I could if I were by their side, walking with them. For most of human history, this is largely how humans had to relate to God… until Jesus. In Jesus, God came near. Emmanuel - God WITH us. But as a man, not even Jesus could ALWAYS be with everyone. Though God had come closer than ever before, Jesus could only be so close to any person at any particular time and place. (The beautiful thing is, those that WERE close, with Him, encounter His love, grace, mercy, healing, etc were transformed by His presence). That is why Jesus promises us the Holy Spirit. Dallas Willard defines “spirit” as personal power and presence. Think about that - the Holy Spirit is the personal (not impersonal, not vibes, not a force) power and presence of God. The Holy Spirit is God with every believer, everywhere, every moment of every day. To walk with us. To counsel us, know us, teach us, and remind us. To keep us from stumbling. To show us that God loves us so much that He’ll never leave us or forsake us. Today, no matter where you are, God’s presence and power is available to you through Jesus in His Holy Spirit. Walk with Him today.
