THINK. A Thought from Pastor Mike
”We have never seen anything like this!” That is what the people were saying after they saw Jesus heal a crippled man (Mark 2:12). They weren’t saying that because they witnessed a miraculous healing. The people of Capernaum had already seen Jesus heal many people (Mark 1:32-34). No it was his claim to have authority to forgive sins that really raised eyebrows. The religious leaders on hand were asking each other: “who does this guy think he is? How dare he make such outlandish claims. He breaks our rules. He hangs out with “dirty” people. He MUST be in cahoots with the devil!” The common folk on hand were asking the better question: “Who IS this guy?” They consistently witnessed Jesus speak with unparalleled authority, demonstrate radical compassion, and manifest miraculous acts that could only be accomplished by someone with the very power of God himself. A famous saying says that the simplest explanation is often the right one. Jesus, in his time teaching and ministering on earth, consistently sounded and acted like God. For many in those times, and for many over the ages since, the simplest answer seems to be the right one: Jesus was God. The people were right to say they had never seen anything like him. He was one of a kind. Worthy to be admired, revered, followed, emulated, and loved deeply.
Thank you, Jesus, for coming into our world to show us what love looks like!
