THINK. A Thought from Pastor Dave
Faith is often thought of as some basic, foundation truths - something you have or you don’t. It’s what you believe and where you stand “at the end of the day.” But more than where you end up, faith is where you start from. It’s not simply something you have, something religious you did on a day, or where you’ll go when you die - it determines what you have, where you go, and what you do today. Faith leads the way. Faith makes a way. And faith prepares the way for Jesus. And faith is all about who (not simply “what”) you believe. The disciples believed Jesus and, rather than waiting for their needs to be met, they took a step of faith that inspired generosity and the meeting of their need. Their belief - their faith - prepared the way for Jesus to enter and people to worship Him. Faith produces action - which may be why Jesus takes us down the produce aisle next. He curses a fig tree that was showing signs of life but not producing fruit, as it should have been. Later, the disciples noticed the tree had already withered. Jesus uses it as a picture, a lesson, saying “If you’re impressed by a fig tree, just watch what you can do with even a mustard seed of faith in what God can do.” Believe Him. Trust Him. And may your faith produce the fruit of action today.
