THINK. A Thought from Pastor Dave
What we do and don’t do matters. We are each responsible for ourselves. Our thoughts, feelings, attitudes, words, actions, and reactions. Most of us know on some level we are responsible for what we’ve done, and yet we don’t think as often about being responsible for what we haven’t done. We think of standing before God one day hearing “well done” for the good we’ve done and the bad we haven’t done… and giving an account for the bad we’ve done… but what about good left undone? Beyond the personal what level of responsibility does an individual carry for their contributions to the deeds, misdeeds, and “missed-deeds” of a culture, or country? In the book of Amos, God makes His voice heard, calling all people (and every person) to repent from their evil and seek life in Him. God is just and righteous, and He calls His people to reflect and pursue justice and righteousness in our lives. Justice is right judgment and right action toward humanity (think horizontal - doing right by others). Righteousness is an adherence to God’s moral, upright standard (think vertical - doing right by God). As you read, you may want to highlight examples of justice and injustice, and underline examples of righteousness and unrighteousness.
