THINK. A Thought from Pastor Dave
Reading today’s scripture took me back to the days of playing hide & seek, tag, or capture the flag. The danger of getting caught or tagged was all around, but there was always one place that was safe. That was what you were seeking out - especially when the “danger” was close by. That was God’s invitation to His people in Amos 5, and that is God’s invitation to us today. Seek me and LIVE. Anywhere else is destruction. He goes on to say that people have been seeking to build homes and drink their own wine at the cost of other people. It didn’t matter who was destroyed along the way. In the end, seeking anything other than the safe place of God leads to our own destruction. We won’t find or enjoy the life we spent ours seeking. Some would respond, “But I AM with God.” The modern day equivalent would be something like, “I believe in God. I’m a good person.” etc. God gives us a roadmap for seeking Him by showing us what it looks like to be with Him. Pursuing (active) good, not evil. Hating (active) evil and loving (active) good. This is what it looks like to be with God. This is the safe place you’re invited to live - really live - in and from. Don’ seek evil and call it good. There’s only destruction at the end of that road. Hate it. Run away from it. Seek out and run to the safe place of God’s goodness today. Ask God to show you how.
