THINK. A Thought from Jessica Glenn
Hezekiah was set apart from all other kings with no one before or after him demonstrating the same diligence in seeking God and a pursuit of restoring Israel’s relationship with God. What I would describe as revival broke out among the people as they consecrated themselves to the Lord. The places of idolatry were torn down by the people, not in response to a command by the king but by the people in response to God. An abundance of free will offerings were given back to God in gratitude for all He had done for them. One simple verse stood out to me though in 2 Kings 18:4 where it tells how Hezekiah tore down idols including the bronze snake that Moses had made for the Israelites when they were in the wilderness. Looking back, God had instructed Moses to make this image as something the people would look to to save them from death if they were bitten by the snakes that had entered the camp as a result of their sin. It was interesting to me that this bronze snake that God used once simply as a symbol to rescue them had become an object of idolatry and worship rather than the person of God Himself. I think many times we can be tempted to seek after Gods power, blessing, provision, rescuing, signs & wonders but in the process miss seeking HIM the giver of all things. I am challenged today to be like Hezekiah and be diligent in seeking my God and a relationship with Him to truly know Him first and foremost above the things I know He can do for me which absolutely He can and does but He is jealous for my attention and affection. Like the words of the song “Knowing You, Jesus” by Graham Kendrick:
Knowing You, Jesus
Knowing You
There is no greater thing
You're my all, You're the best
You're my joy, my righteousness
And I love You, Lord
