THINK. A Thought from Pastor Dave
I’m the firstborn in my family. Practically, there’s one thing that has meant for my entire life - I have gone first. Through the years, my little sister has received hand-me-downs, beat downs, wisdom passed down, places I’ve fallen down, friends to be down with and fads to be down on. (I even got her out of senior year Trig!) In Biblical times, the firstborn son was typically the one who inherited the father’s wealth. Here, at the end of Jesus’ family tree, we actually find the beginning. And when we trust Jesus, we find that we’re on it. We’re in. We share the same Father. We’re family. And Jesus, our big brother, goes first. But instead of simply getting all that was rightfully his, Jesus gives it to us. He doesn’t even pass down what he’s done with - he lifts us up to make us coheirs. That means we are welcomed and treated like Jesus, the firstborn - we have equal rights and receive everything that belongs to the Father. A full inheritance. What does that include? Salvation. Sanctification and righteousness. Freedom from sin. Help when we’re tempted. Grace. Insight. The riches of knowing God. Wisdom. And the boldness and confidence to access God. What do you want/need most from today’s reading? Receive it today - it’s yours in Christ Jesus.
