THINK. Thoughts & Prayers from Pastor Dave…
Remember being told to sit up, not slouch, or stand up straight? How about seeing soldiers stand at attention, or standing and removing your hat before the national anthem? While we can pray any time and in any way, our posture often communicates something too - if to no one but ourselves. There’s no “one way” to pray. In the same way that there are different forms and postures for prayer, the content of our prayers will vary significantly as well. Some prayers are confession, agreeing with God about our sin and repenting for wrongdoing. We may make promises (or vows) to God - often as part of a wedding, dedication, or other ceremony. Prayers of imprecation are requests for God to act against an enemy - giving voice to a desire to see evil defeated, justice prevail, and suffering cease. Prayers of petition (or intercession) are requests for information, direction, intervention, or consideration in the midst of one’s own circumstances. Prayers of lament express grief, despair, and even complaint as well as confidence in God’s ability to save and deliver. Prayers of praise are for who God is and what He has done or how we have experienced Him - often including blessing and thanksgiving. Experiment with different postures of prayer today!
