Good Morning!
Let’s focus our day by spending some time with Jesus before it begins.
WORSHIP FOCUS | 5-15 Minutes
Worship can be as simple as thanking God for who He is & what He does. (Psalm 100:4)
1. Start out by writing or saying out loud 3-5 things you’re thankful for.
2. Play or sing some worship music you love, or use this Christmas Worship Playlist.
SCRIPTURE FOCUS | 5-15 Minutes
Pray a simple prayer before reading, asking the Holy Spirit to guide you into all truth. (John 14:26)
Today’s reading is from Exodus 17:1-7, John 4:1-26, John 7:37-39, Revelation 21:5-7 & Revelation 22:17
Highlight verses that capture your attention, and ask three simple questions as you read…
S = Say. What is the main point? What does it teach about God (Jesus) & yourself?
O = Obey. What can you apply (practice) from this passage today?
S = Share. Who can you share what you’re learning with today?
One of the best ways to learn more about the Bible is by discussing it with others.
Work through this week’s Discussion Guide and meet up with a Paradox Lifegroup.
A THOUGHT FROM TODAY’S READING…
As I was reading today’s scriptures, I was reminded that they say 2/3 of a human body is water. That always seemed high to me, so I just looked it up. The vast majority of the water in our bodies is intercellular, which means inside the cells themselves. I always knew water was integral to our lives, but to appreciate that at the most basic level of our physical existence, water is in everything…that’s amazing. No wonder hydration is so important, and when we go without water for a time our bodies freak out. No wonder the Israelites were so upset when they were led to camp in a dry area and the woman at the well with Jesus was so excited to hear from Jesus about “a well of water springing up in you”.
Just like food and drink naturally go together, today’s lesson pairs well with yesterday. God uses our physical need for food and drink to help us understand how equally, and even more important it is to satisfy our spiritual hunger and thirst. We saw yesterday that Jesus declared himself “the bread of life”. In John 7 today we see that Jesus teaches that the Holy Spirit of God is “streams of living water flowing from deep within”. As our physical body needs water at its most basic level, our spiritual body (soul) was created to be hydrated by God himself, and he longs to “freely give to the thirsty from the spring of the water of life”.
Are you feeling spiritually parched? Uncap the spring set inside you when you accepted Jesus as your Lord and invite the life giving Spirit of God to flow through you today. - Mike Nank
