THINK. A Thought from Pastor Dave…
The other day I was at breakfast when a couple at a table across from me caught my eye. They were using sign language to have a conversation. No words were being spoken - it was completely silent - and yet, they were communicating. The book of Malachi is the last book of the Old Testament of the Bible. 500 years pass between the time it was written and the time the birth of John the Baptizer would be announced to Zechariah and Elizabeth. And in those years, there was silence. Silence from God. And yet, God communicates even in the silence. God is present in the silence. God is preparing things in the silence. What seems like a dead end is often God making a way. Like Zechariah, we have a God who, at times, is “making signs to them while remaining speechless.” Look for the signs of God’s presence and plans in the midst of the mundane (Luke 1:8), in the seemingly random things (Luke 1:9), and in the midst of uncertainty (Luke 1:18) today. And expect that even in the silence, God may be giving you a sign. Jesus is coming. Are you prepared, waiting, and expectant?
LIVE. One practical way to understand and apply the Bible is the SOS method. Ask…
S: What does this passage say about God, and what does it say about me?
O: What am I being invited to obey?
S: What can I share with those around me?
