THINK. A Thought from Jessica Glenn…
Sometimes reading this passage, I am in awe of Jesus’ bold, open rebuke of the religious leaders of that time. Jesus had no fear and called them out for the importance they placed on the law without any concern for the heart or the motive behind the law. Jesus came to turn things completely upside down. He replaced the law with grace and defined greatness not by a role, title or position but by service to others. He summarized the whole law in two commands and admonished the religious leaders of the day to look inward as opposed to worrying about how they appeared to others. The Pharisees boasted on not being like their forefathers in missing Gods voice and killing the prophets who spoke on Gods behalf. And yet, Jesus foretold that they would do the very same yet far worse - they would miss God incarnate Himself as He walked along them and reject His voice and message. Oh God, would you remove the blinders from our eyes and give us eyes to see You and have an understanding of the times and how You are at work today! Let us be more concerned about the state of our heart and inner being more than our appearance before man - clean us from the inside out. How is the Holy Spirit working in you today to clean you from the inside? May He give us all eyes to see Him at work all around us!
ASK. Throughout this study, we’ll be practicing Discovery Bible Study (DBS) together. After each day’s reading, ask the following questions and write down your thoughts.
What is the main point of this passage?
What does it teach you about God (Jesus)?
What does it show you about people, or yourself?
What can you apply (practice) from this passage today?
Who can you share this with today?
How did you do practicing and sharing what you learned yesterday?
PRAY (AGAIN). Pray for a family member, a lifegroup/church friend, someone who came to mind, someone who doesn’t know Jesus, and the nations. Pick one each day or pray through them all every day.
