THINK. A Thought from Holly MacDonald…
Many of us are familiar with the idea of practicing the Sabbath Day, but have you heard of the Sabbath year Sounds pretty great, right? While the Israelites were preparing to enter the Promised Land, the Lord spoke to Moses at Mount Sinai about the land observing a Sabbath year. It required no sowing, pruning, or gathering on the seventh year to give the land a rest. Practicing the Sabbath day requires a true trust in the Lord, but a year for the land? That needs an extra dose of faith! In today’s reading, Leviticus 25:20-22 jumped off the page as if the Lord knew that question would be on everyone’s mind. The natural human response to pausing work is, “What if we don’t have enough?”. The Lord figured you and I, and even the Israelites would ask that. In response, He said, “I will send you such a blessing in the sixth year that the land will yield enough for three years," (Leviticus 25:21). My translation… “I’ll bless your socks off with more than enough.” God does not just fill in the gaps when we obey Him. I believe that He goes above and beyond to flood your life with blessings too numerous to count. One of the blessings is experiencing true rest in the presence of God. God’s presence alleviates our burdens, stress, anxiety, depression, etc.. We can trust God to take care of our physical, emotional, and spiritual needs when we obey His command to rest in Him.
