THINK. A Thought from Pastor Dave
Abraham is commonly known as the father of the faith. Not only do Christians trace our faith back to this encounter with God, but Jews and even Muslims do too. (Jesus, not Abraham, is the main point of difference between the three, with Christians believing that Jesus is not only a good teacher, but God in the flesh.) That’s certainly a lot of “descendants!” But being the father of “faith” doesn’t simply mean he was the first adherent to a particular practice of faith. The call of Abraham is the first record of faith - or as Genesis 15:6 says, Abraham believed God. That’s what faith is. Faith will often lead you to leave things behind. In Abraham’s case, his land (the familiar), his family (the known), and his father’s house (the comfortable). God promised that on the other side of faith was blessing. Many people’s approach to faith starts and stops here - obey God to get “blessings” (or good things) from Him. But faith in the God of Abraham goes beyond self. Seeking blessing for ourselves is a vision too small. God is interested in blessing not only you, but your family, those that bless you as you walk out your faith, and even the nations of the earth. All through your obedience - your faith. Faith means responding to God’s call to go into the unfamiliar, the unknown, and the uncomfortable. And when we believe God, we’re blessed. Our families are blessed. Those that help us are blessed. And all people on earth are blessed. That’s a lot of blessing from a little faith. Are you seeking God’s blessing today? How might God be inviting you into the unfamiliar, the unknown, and the uncomfortable? Believe God. Respond in faith. And be blessed.
