THINK. A Thought from Pastor Dave…
Yesterday, we started a message series at Paradox called, “Consider the Source.” We’re talking about the Bible, it’s authorship, and authority in our life. Some of the primary things that people called Jesus were Rabbi (which means ‘Teacher’) and Lord (which means ‘Master.’) Both of these titles require humility. Humility presumes we have much to learn. If we want to search for wisdom in an effort to know and enjoy God, the source of life, then we can approach the book of Proverbs vulnerably, ready to examine our own hearts, trusting God our Father and believing that His instruction is for our good. The foundational truth in Proverbs is this: to deny God is to walk in the way of a fool, but to follow His ways is wisdom. Wisdom is not just the accumulation of knowledge. It is a way we walk through life, seeking to know and live out God’s truth. Folly, in the biblical sense of the word, is to hold the pursuit of truth in contempt by choosing to make our own path. A life of wisdom or folly comes from more than the individual decisions we make; it comes from how we approach the journey of life as a whole. May you approach Scripture, God, and life with the posture of a learner today.
LIVE. One practical way to understand and apply the Bible is the SOS method. Ask…
S: What does this passage say about God, and what does it say about me?
O: What am I being invited to obey?
S: What can I share with those around me?
PRAY. Pray for yourself, a family member, a lifegroup/church friend, someone who doesn’t know Jesus, and the nations. Pick one each day or pray through them all every day.
