Good Morning!
Let’s focus our day by spending some time with Jesus before it begins.
WORSHIP. Pick a song from one of our Spotify Playlists and let it play in the background.
THANK. Write down 3-5 things you’re thankful for in the last 24 hours.
READ. Our Scripture Focus is Hebrews 12:1-2. Try memorizing it during this study!
Today’s reading is from Hebrews 2 (Going Deeper: 1 Corinthians 15:50-56 & Colossians 1:15-20)
THINK. A Thought from Pastor Dave…
Here’s the thing about sequels - they’re never as good as the original. (Am I right?) Part 2 always ends up disappointing. We loved the first one, but leave feeling like we shouldn’t have really paid attention to the second. Hebrews draws on Old Testament - the “original” law, quite a bit. Written to Jews who had converted to Christianity and were under intense persecution, it’s purpose is to establish the superiority of the new covenant in Jesus to the Old. Throughout the entire book, the greek word kreitton is used, which means “more excellent.” This new covenant in Jesus is more excellent. More beautiful. More trustworthy. It’s better. Why? Because the law was actually based on the original - Jesus. The one who existed before all things. The one who spoke all things into existence. And the one who makes all things new. No matter what’s going on in life, pay attention. Not to the rules, but to Him. The original is worth it.
LIVE. One practical way to understand and apply the Bible is the SOS method. Ask…
S: What does this passage say about God, and what does it say about me?
O: What am I being invited to obey?
S: What can I share with those around me?
PRAY. Pray for yourself, a family member, a lifegroup/church friend, someone who doesn’t know Jesus, and the nations. Pick one each day or pray through them all every day.
TALK. That was our take on today’s reading - what’s yours? Share thoughts and ask questions in the forum.
SHARE. Stay focused with a friend! Invite them to text “FOCUS” to (586) 200-6277.
Stay focused on Jesus today, and make it a great one!
