Today’s reading is from Hebrews 5:11-14 & 6:1-12 (Going Deeper: Proverbs 2:1-11 & Philippians 3:12-16)
THINK. A Thought from Pastor Mike…
Do you ever long to be a kid again? Yearn for simpler days when you lived in blissful ignorance to the ways of the world and had few responsibilities? I do…some times. However, the thought of leaving my family and returning to my childhood home to ride my BigWheel for the rest of my days, while funny to think about on some levels, is absurd. I’m an adult with responsibilities and knowledge that I can’t just ignore. The writer of Hebrews is reminding his readers of this same reality on a spiritual level. Once he have met Jesus, experienced his love in our lives, and heard his call to us to take up our cross and follow him…we can’t go back. It would be absurd. Jesus once asked his disciples if they wanted to walk away from him as many in a crowd were doing that day when his teachings got tough. Peter famously answered “Lord, to whom would we go? You have the words of eternal life.” Let us lean into maturity this week, asking God for more knowledge and responsibility, not less. At the same time, we ask for more of God’s Spirit to equip and encourage us as we focus forward.
LIVE. One practical way to understand and apply the Bible is the SOS method. Ask…
S: What does this passage say about God, and what does it say about me?
O: What am I being invited to obey?
S: What can I share with those around me?
PRAY. Pray for yourself, a family member, a lifegroup/church friend, someone who doesn’t know Jesus, and the nations. Pick one each day or pray through them all every day.
