Good Morning!
Let’s focus our day by spending some time with Jesus before it begins.
WORSHIP. Pick a song from one of our Spotify Playlists and let it play in the background.
THANK. Write down 3-5 things you’re thankful for in the last 24 hours.
READ. Our Scripture Focus is Hebrews 12:1-2. Try memorizing it during this study!
Today’s reading is from Hebrews 6:13-20 & Hebrews 7 (Going Deeper: Genesis 22:15-18 & Romans 8:28-30)
THINK. A Thought from Pastor Dave…
Ok, so who is this Melchizedek, and why does that matter? In today’s reading, the writer demonstrates that Jesus is “a better hope” by which we draw near to God than any other priest or sacrificial system (like the one God gave the Israelites in the law, which they had been practicing for thousands of years.) Jesus is a better hope than the one given in the law because Jesus is complete - once and for all. Chapter 7 verse 25 says that Jesus is able to completely save (as opposed to sacrifices, which had to be offered continually) and that He always would, since He is also a better priest. How? Because Jesus is a priest that is alive. Forever. In this way, Jesus is greater even then Abraham and Moses (who God made His covenant with and delivered His law through, respectively), because even Abraham gave a Priest/King honor. Usually, the King, the Priest, and the Prophet were all different people. But Melchizedek (who many believe to actually be an apparition of Jesus himself - read more here), was a King AND a Priest with seemingly no beginning or end. Even the father of the faith honored this kind of eternal, better King/Priest. So… where is your hope anchored? In things that move, change, and are incomplete? Does your hope drift? Or is it set in the unchangeable promise, guaranteed by Jesus?
LIVE. One practical way to understand and apply the Bible is the SOS method. Ask…
S: What does this passage say about God, and what does it say about me?
O: What am I being invited to obey?
S: What can I share with those around me?
PRAY. Pray for yourself, a family member, a lifegroup/church friend, someone who doesn’t know Jesus, and the nations. Pick one each day or pray through them all every day.
TALK. That was our take on today’s reading - what’s yours? Share thoughts and ask questions in the forum.
SHARE. Stay focused with a friend! Invite them to text “FOCUS” to (586) 200-6277.
Stay focused on Jesus today, and make it a great one!
