THINK. A Thought from Pastor Dave…
We’ve been talking about how Jesus sets us free the past few days. The words of the hymn we’ve been focused on say that Jesus was born to set His people free, and that in doing so He releases us from fear and sin. Not typically what we think of when we think of freedom. Today’s reading describes God as light and the stronghold of our life. Light shows us what is true and real. And in doing so, it removes fear. (Remember turning the light on when you were afraid of the dark as a kid?) Fear has a way of scattering along with the darkness. What scary thing in your life do you need to ask God to show you the truth about today? Fear can also cause us to make unhealthy, destructive, sinful decisions. Removing our fear and replacing it with God’s love is actually part of how He saves us and sets us free! Sometimes, though, what we see in the light is still scary. That’s when we need to see God. God is our stronghold - bigger, stronger, and more powerful than anything we face. God’s light helps us to see Him rightly. And when we see God rightly, we can have courage. What scary step is God asking you to take today? Pray that God would remove your fear and give you courage to take it, knowing He is right there with you.
LIVE. One practical way to understand and apply the Bible is the SOS method. Ask…

O: What am I being invited to obey?
S: What can I share with those around me?
PRAY. Pray for yourself, a family member, a lifegroup/church friend, someone who doesn’t know Jesus, and the nations. Pick one each day or pray through them all every day.
