THINK. A Thought from Holly MacDonald…
The Bible makes it very clear that salvation and His Kingdom is for every tribe, language, and nation, however, chronologically speaking, the Gospel message was actually first revealed to the Jewish people before the Gentiles (non-Jewish people). Jesus earthly ministry was focused on the Jews first (Matthew 15:42), though as we read today, He often ministered to the Gentile and traveled at great lengths to do so (Mark 7:24-30). In the Gospel Mark from our reading today, Jesus’ act of compassion toward the Canaanite woman is a picture of His ministry to the whole world. He crossed cultural barriers and laws to show that His salvation is for everyone! He is the Savior, healer, and deliverer for all, not just the Jew or Gentile. Romans 9:25-26 recalls the book of Hosea which shows God’s intentions to bring the Gentiles into His family. When Christ came, He became the ultimate sacrifice for all mankind and in Him we are saved! We become a new creation, no longer identified by our social status, race, or culture. He breaks down all barriers and accepts all people who come to Him. This is why we shouldn’t keep the Good News from anyone who crosses our path! There is a world searching for hope, a people desperate to know someone is for them. This Christmas, do not keep the hope of Jesus a secret. Take His message to the ends of the earth! Jesus is absolutely for everyone. He is the hope of all the earth.
LIVE. One practical way to understand and apply the Bible is the SOS method. Ask…
S: What does this passage say about God, and what does it say about me?
O: What am I being invited to obey?
S: What can I share with those around me?
PRAY. Pray for yourself, a family member, a lifegroup/church friend, someone who doesn’t know Jesus, and the nations. Pick one each day or pray through them all every day.
