Good Morning!
Let’s focus our day by spending some time with Jesus before it begins.
THANK. Write down 3-5 things you’re thankful for in the last 24 hours.
WORSHIP. Pick a song from one of our Spotify Playlists and let it play in the background.
READ. Today’s scripture reading is from Ezekiel 36:26 & Ezekiel 18-19 (Go Deeper: Romans 1:16-17 & 2 Peter 3:9)
THINK. A Thought from Pastor Dave…
Does it ever seem like some people want to be a victim? This had become so pervasive in Ezekiel’s day that a common saying about grapes is mentioned, where kids suffer because of the actions of their parents. In Ezekiel 18, God presses pause on the parables and addresses people directly. While the cumulative effects of sin over generations is real, each person is responsible for their own sin. People’s response to God’s judgment then, as it often is now, was to cry “Unfair!” God lays out four kinds of people - the first two of which are meant to create a common baseline. Righteous people should live, while the wicked should die for their sin. Then, God describes two other people - a righteous person who turns from God and pursuing good, and a wicked person who turns from evil and pursuing sin. The first would die, while the second would live. The righteous person thinks this is fair, while the wicked who turned from their ways is grateful for grace. The only ones who think this is not fair are those who choose their sinful ways - to whom God replies, “It’s YOUR ways that are unfair, not mine.” Our God is not just a fair God, He is a patient, loving God. God takes no pleasure in punishment. His desire is that NO ONE would live and die apart from Him. His invitation is clear - repent and live. It’s never too late.
LIVE. One practical way to understand and apply the Bible is the SOS method. Ask…
S: What does this passage say about God, and what does it say about me?
O: What am I being invited to obey?
S: What can I share with those around me?
PRAY. Pray for yourself, a family member, a friend, someone who doesn’t know Jesus, and the nations.
