THINK. A Thought from Holly MacDonald…
After Solomon passed, his son Rehoboam, took the throne and became king. Unfortunately, he was the fourth and final king of the united nation of Israel. During his reign, Rehoboam’s immaturity and lack of wisdom caused the kingdom to be divided. Ten tribes followed Jeroboam and called their nation Israel (northern kingdom) while the other two tribes, Judah and Benjamin (David’s line), called their nation Judah (southern kingdom). Rehoboam’s reign can teach us a lot about seeking wise counsel, the long-lasting consequences of our decisions, or even God’s faithfulness to protect David’s line from which Jesus would soon come. Unfortunately, Rehoboam’s story has a sad ending. I prefer when my movies are complete with a happy ending and everyone lives in perfect harmony. Unfortunately, that’s not the case here. 2 Chronicles 13:14 says that “He did evil because His heart was not set on seeking God.” Here’s the truth, our hearts can lead us astray. When our eyes wander, desiring anything more than we desire God, we sin. Sin can have a lasting impact on you, those around you, and even those who come after you. Thankfully in even in our sin, the Lord loves and cares enough that He disciplines us to correct and redirect us back to Him. Your story does not have to end the way Rehoboam’s did. Pray with me today and repent of any sin that the Lord might have brought to mind this morning. Lord, we welcome your discipline and correction as we know your discipline leads to life! Help us to seek you today and everyday, turning away from foolishness and unwise counsel, trusting you and your plans completely. Amen.
