THINK. A Thought from Pastor Mike…
For me, and I think most of us, analogies are a very helpful tool to help us understand a tough or foreign concept. There is no perfect analogy for what the writer of Hebrews is talking about in today’s reading, but let me try something. Say you had a trusted friend who told you that they had done the legwork to set up an investment that would pay you back 100 fold whatever money you put in, guaranteed. There is no limit to what you can invest and if more people join the investment it’s payback won’t change. You should feel overjoyed to launch full steam ahead into such a venture and share it with all the people you know. On the flip side, armed with this knowledge, if you passed on the opportunity you would be extremely foolish. In a similar way, Jesus paved the way through his sacrifice for all people to reap immeasurable benefit from relationship with God through the work that Jesus did on the cross. We should be overjoyed and confident to accept this gift; and eager to share it. Passing on this chance to connect with the God of the universe is foolish and has dire consequence. Click “accept” on grace today and enter boldly into relationship with Jesus.
LIVE. One practical way to understand and apply the Bible is the SOS method. Ask…
S: What does this passage say about God, and what does it say about me?
O: What am I being invited to obey?
S: What can I share with those around me?
PRAY. Pray for yourself, a family member, a lifegroup/church friend, someone who doesn’t know Jesus, and the nations. Pick one each day or pray through them all every day.
